Speranza i Mickiewicz
Gmerek, Katarzyna
Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu
This article researches the translations of two Adam Mickiewicz’s ballads published in Ireland by Lady Wilde (known under the pen-name Speranza), both versions probably unknown to Polish scholars. Simultaneously, it is a case study for exploring nineteenth-century lesser known Victorian poetry, retrieved from both traditional and electronic sources, from a librarian’s point of view. Two ballads: Czaty (The Waivode) and Trzech Budrysów (Three Sons of Budris) were first published in The Nation, December 1848, as anonymous poems “from Russian”. Subsequently, they were published in anthologies, with the same misleading information on the original language, at one time attributed to Pushkin. Lady Wilde was credited as their translator. Lady Wilde very likely wrote her own version of the poems that she had found either in English, French or Italian. A hypothesis is suggested that she used a translation from Pushkin, who published Mickiewicz’s poems in Russia without credits to the Polish author because of censorship. The present author searched for the material at the National Library o f Ireland and at the Trinity College Library, Dublin. It appears that electronic sources were useless in this case, except for the initial discovery of the poems in digitized books online. It appears that nineteenth-century poetry in digitized periodicals and databases such as the Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals, is usually not indexed. Hopefully, this can be improved in the future.

O bibliografii pszczelnictwa polskiego
Tomaszewski, Roman
Uniwersytet Przyrodniczy w Poznaniu,Biblioteka Główna i Centrum Informacji Naukowej
The article is concerned to outline the present state o f retrospective apiculture bibliography. Bibliography in this held has not been worked out consistently and uniformly so far and still remains very patchy. The basis for the bibliography is formed by the listings made by Tadeusz Grochowski, Antoni Jakubski and Wacław Kranowski, partly complementing one another. The initiatives o f creating a comprehensive bibliography that have been taken to date were not successful. Undoubtedly, one of the reasons behind those failures is the very wide t hematic scope that has to be included. The tradition of Polish apiculture has created it own bibliographical canon. According to this canon regarding publications, basically books and periodicals published in the Polish language are only entered in bibliographies. The range of the bibliography covers thus a limited area of interest and results in its constraints and drawbacks. The article discusses the beginnings of the periodical press covering problems of apiculture and points out at the fact that there is no full and comprehensive listing of titles published in the areas historically or ethnically related to or associated with Poland. The article also recalls apicultura] periodicals that have been published locally in the Wielkopolska region. Apart from the need for compiling a full and comprehensive bibliography of publications and more important texts from periodicals as well as a complete listing o f periodicals, the absence of the subject bibliography of The Rev. Dr. Jan Dzierżoń is additionally mentioned in the article. The author proposes working out separate apicultural bibliographies covering material produced in Silesia, Western Pomerania and parts of Eastern Prussia. A modern bibliography that would record the entire output of broadly-understood Polish apicultural literature in line with current research standards still needs to be worked out.

Przyczynek do dziejów Biblioteki Radzieckiej w Poznaniu
Jazdon, Artur
Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, Biblioteka Uniwersytecka
The article recalls the events surrounding the issuing of the emergency appeal launched by the municipal authorities of the town of Poznań in 1874 for handing over books, journals and pamphlets to the Council Library. The aim behind the appeal was to collect as much material related to the history of the region and the contemporary issues of the areas that belong to the then Grand Duchy of Poznań as possible. On the basis of the analysis of the contents of the library Catalogue from the year 1883, i.e. the date when the effort was completed, one can say that, to a certain degree, the appeal led to a successful completion resulting in a quantitative development o f the resources. However, the author also points at the qualitative shortcomings in the ensuing growth of the collections. The employed analysis proves that the basic task of the appeal was not fulfilled and the library created in the process did not preserve sufficiently complete resource of works.

„Das Leben als Theater”. Afisze niemieckiego Teatru Miejskiego w Poznaniu w zbiorach Biblioteki Raczyńskich
Urbańska, Agnieszka
Biblioteka Raczyńskich w Poznaniu
The article examines eighteenth and nineteenth century posters produced or commissioned by the German Municipal Theatre in Poznań (then German Posen) that have been preserved in the collections of the Raczyński Library. The posters under scrutiny here were issued between 1789-1867. The sheer time span of this continuously documented history of Poznań theatre makes it possible to carry out an analysis of the changing repertoire of staged plays, actors’ staff members and art leaders, but also that of the pattern for the theatrical posters, graphical elements or the material used for their production. The article aims at presenting the function and the role of the aforementioned factors in the then theatre life of the multicultured Poznań as well as the meaning and significance of the theatre in the town itself.

Spuścizna po Henryku Beresce. Kilka uwag nad polskimi i niemieckimi zasadami opracowywania archiwów osobistych
Kaźmierczak, Błażej
Archiwum Karola Dedeciusa przy Collegium Polonicum w Słubicach
The author discusses his comparative analysis of Polish and German archival thought related to processing personal archives. The motive behind the present considerations was the literary and archival legacy of Henryk Bereska, one o f the most eminent translators of Polish literature into the German language. A concise introduction presents briefly the life of H. Bereska and describes the nature of the body of archival work currently held at the university library of Viadrina University in Frankfurt/Oder. Further, the author proceeds to analyze the methods employed for processing personal archives in Poland and in Germany. The most favourable processing methodology created by the team headed by H. Bereska was worked out as the result of the combination of the techniques elaborated in the two aforementioned methodological schools. The approach to processing the body of literary work of the translator was done according to Polish rules for physical ordering of literary legacies and German rules for making up inventories of the processed material. The article also presents the integrated, open Kalliope database, a tool used in the inventory making process employed for documents included in the legacy.

Słowo - obraz - pamięć w labiryntach komiksu
Gajewska, Grażyna
Kolegium Europejskie im. Jana Pawła II w Gnieźnie
The comic book is a product of mass culture. It got deeply rooted in American and Western European popular culture in the 1970s. In France, this type of sequential art told in pictorial stories was presented in daily papers ( bande dessinee) and developed humorously-told threads o f the plot. In the UK it won juvenile audience with its simple jokes, genre scenes and shortened and abridged versions o f fables. In the United States, in turn, crude science fiction, horror or joke graphic stories were most popular. However, in the late 1990s these depictions increasingly started to develop into something of much different nature. On the one hand, popular culture embraced more and more different creative areas, wrestled with subject and themes that so far had been tackled only by more sophisticated literature (for example, war themes). On the other hand, Polish reader had a better chance to experience new titles and pictorial stories from the West or other far-away cultures that represented high artistic skills and offered original and remarkable stories. This, in turn, created a new situation in which adult readers turned to comic books. Moreover, comic books became a subject of interests for academics beyond those who were professionally involved in documenting and understanding popular culture, i.e. for methodologists of history, modern culture anthropologists, researchers in literature and art historians. Today’s status of comic books in literature is pronouncedly higher than that of several years ago. For it is not only the artistic level that has been much developed and improved, but also the thematic range of subject to be tackled by this form of literature. Additionally, the context within comics have been functioning in the space of modern discourse has also changed. A particular type of comics is the one that presents historical contents. Works of brilliant artists from different cultures such as, for example, Hiroshima 19Ą5 Barefoot Gen by Nakazawa Keij, Art Spiegelman’s Motts, or Achtung Zeligl by Krzysztof Gawronkiewicz and Krystian Rosenberg have become available 011 the Polish publishing market and have been widely reviewed and discussed academically. In the present article these comic books or graphic novels are interpreted as different types of maze: the Cretean maze, mystery-maze and maze-rhizome.

Narodowy Zasób Biblioteczny - doświadczenia dziesięciu lat
Piejko, Renata
Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu
November 24th, 2008 marks the tenth anniversary of the issuing of the regulation defining the National Library Stock Creation and the rules governing its preservation along with the list of libraries to be included in the scheme. The inclusion of a library in the list of participating libraries is a proof of the appreciation of the importance of the collections of a particular library 011 the one hand, but imposes additional tasks related to the preservation and the processing of the resources and the care of its preservation 011 the other. It should be noticed at this juncture that unfortunately no unambiguous definition of the National Library Stock has been provided yet and, likewise there are 110 proper indication of financial resources to be assigned in support of these additional tasks imposed 011 the selected libraries. Things as they are, however, make the scope and the pace of work in individual libraries particularly dependent on their individual capabilities and worked out criteria to be applied.

Zespołowa organizacja pracy (teamwork) w niemieckich bibliotekach uniwersyteckich
Gębołyś, Zdzisław
Uniwersytet Śląski w Katowicach, Instytut Bibliotekoznawstwa i Informacji Naukowej
The article discusses the method of team organization of work (teamwork) employed in German university and academic libraries. The starting point for the discussion is the description of the shortcomings of the ubiquitous functional organizational model used in academic libraries. This model features numerous flaws, particularly noticeable in the decision making process carried out at the hierarchical level. The solution enabling elimination or, at least limiting the adverse shortcomings hampering the development of any library, can be the concept of work organization o f teamwork. This method aligns employee mindsets towards a specific business purpose (goals and tasks to be fulfilled) and employs abilities and skills of individual members of teams to a higher degree than before. The teamwork concept, originated in big industry, has now ceased to be just a theory in libraries. It has been used successfully in German university, academic and public libraries. With the example of three university libraries - the Konstanz University Library, Munich University of Technology Library and Dortmund University Library, the author presents the main features of the new organizational model and the stages of its implementation in the said libraries. In a word, teamwork means a change in the organizational structure of a library, cuts in the middle managerial staff, introduces a completely different management system and, additionally, a change in the mentality of the staff. Rewording the above, all this can simply correspond to a great change in the organizational culture of the library.

Proces przygotowania i wdrażania systemu ocen okresowych pracowników w Bibliotece Uniwersyteckiej w Poznaniu
Dąbrowicz, Małgorzata
Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu
The article outlines the current work on the model framework for designing a local staff evaluation system (SES) and its subsequent implementation at Poznań University Library. The starting point for the preliminary work on the project was setting up objectives of the evaluation, defining the scope, rules and assumptions to be applied in the system. The next stage was to work out and adopt evaluation and assessment criteria and then the choice of methods and tools preparation - evaluation sheets. The planned procedure to be employed by the SES was codified in the written rules to be followed during the implementation. Each stage of the preliminary work involved meetings with staff members of the library where the advances in the system were discussed. Training courses in the system were also provided for would-be evaluators and evaluatees. Further steps in implementing the system are briefly outlined and discussed.

Komu było dedykowane dzieło Gwagnina Sarmatiae Europeae descripto? - rozwiązanie zagadki znanego polonicum XVI w.
Wilgosiewicz - Skutecka, Renata
Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu
This article addresses the problem of the original addressee of the dedication inscribed in the book entitled Sarmatiae Europeae descriptio by A. Gwagnin (Alessandro Guagnini). A unique copy of the book published in 1574 found by the author in Bibliothćque Mazarine in Paris has shed light on the question posed in the title. Gwagnin’s work was originally dedicated to Henry of Valois and it was only after the well-know string of historical events and his notorious flight from Poland (as he secretly left Poland to ascend the French throne) that the dedication was changed, on the initiative of the publisher, to that of Stephen Batory of Poland. This discovery changes the dating of the book adopted hitherto in available monographs and bibliographies.

Fragment księgozbioru Ponińskich z Kościelca w zbiorach Wojewódzkiej i Miejskiej Biblioteki Publicznej w Bydgoszczy
Nowicki, Ryszard
Uniwersytet Kazimierza Wielkiego w Bydgoszczy, Katedra Bibliotekoznawstwa i Informacji Naukowej
This article attempts at reconstructing the history of a private book collection that belonged to the Poniński family from Greater Poland settled in Kościelec Kujawski, a small village near Inowrocław. However, the collection’s profile, size and its final shape can only be determined hypothetically since there are too many gaps to establish something with certainty. During the war the book collection was dispersed and only a small fraction, now held at the public library in Bydgoszcz, survived. Those items from the collection that have been identified are described in detail. A further search for the books fromthe dispersed collection could cast more light on this valuable manorial library that so far has been virtually non-existent in all Polish bibliographies and monographs.

Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu i Biblioteka Poznańskiego Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Nauk w latach 1919-1953. Od współpracy do przyjaznego współistnienia
Głowacka - Helak, Małgorzata
Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu
The article recalls an important episode in the history of the two distinguished libraries in the region. When, in 1919, the new Polish university in Poznań was established it did not have a matching library for the purposes and aspirations of a newly-established academic institution. When the former Kaiser Wilhelm Bibliothek was converted into the University Library it could not initially manage the task as its collections almost did not include many sought-after Polish books. The problem was finally resolved by a decision to co-operate closely with the library of the Society of the Friends of Sciences. In return for some financial support (some of the librarians working in the library were included the University salary grid), the library of the Society undertook to made its collections available to the University staff and students. This was of utmost importance as the University Library, especially in the first years of its existence, suffered from painful shortages in copies of Polish books, and this opportunity helped the University to cope with the teething problems and provide its students with good studying conditions.

Biblioteka mojego wieku – czyli jaka?
Jazdon, Artur
Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu
Contemporary libraries of the twenty-first century are characterized by a marked fluctuation of roles and functions commonly ascribed to them. Librarians are expected to be capable of anticipating them and addressing them appropriately in order to satisfy the requirements set up by users. This article is an attempt to discuss the most important changes that have hitherto been done and to indicate those areas of the activity of research, academic, public and, to a lesser degree, school libraries in which those changes will be particularly pronounced. Anticipated roles and tasks within the management and access to resources, building up own electronic resources and their processing, library space, embarking on tasks hitherto not regarded as strictly ''library" tasks as well as the most important changes in the author's view such as those to be introduced in user services, in-service trainings, education and propagation of knowledge are discussed in the article. The author believes that the new functions, on par with those already existing, should be subjected to actual users, but also to potential ones, even deeper than before. This should effect in creating the library environment as a ''meeting place", some kind of a social space to perform entirely new functions superimposed onto traditional ones in the library information. The new functions will include performing new cultural, educational, social, artistic and communal tasks carried out with a co-operation with other libraries, scientific, educational and cultural instructions. Additionally, the problem of changes in work force management, so vital in the supposed and anticipated transformation of the library and its functions, is evaluated and discussed.

One vision, one platform, one company – power of one. Czy nowy system biblioteczny zrewolucjonizuje bibliotekę?
Karwasiński, Piotr
Biblioteka Uniwersytecka w Poznaniu

Książka w środowisku lokalnym i regionalnym
Wojciechowski, Jacek
Uniwersytet Jagielloński, Instytut Informacji Naukowej i Bibliotekoznawstwa
The changes that are currently taking place in public communication, especially those influenced by IT, have triggered opinions that traditional forms of communication, especially paper forms, are on the verge of extinction. In fact, however, complementary coexistence of both forms of communication, after a careful segmentation process of functioning areas, is more likely to happen. E-communication is commonly identified with information, whereas, like the whole of communication, it is rather fragmented into informative and non-informative. What is really new in it, is its interactive character, substantial freedom in reception, deepened immersion, though temporality as well. It is just another form of communication though it cannot entirely substitute all traditional forms. Public communication functions within a wide spectrum of social life - both within its inner spaces and between them and this situation does not necessarily involves conflict. The local space and, partly, the regional one always shapes the reception, whereas the transmission, though to a various degree depending on a given form of communication, generates itself mainly in the global and/or all-national dimensions. There are some variances in transregional areas. From this perspective, the book is a tool, mainly from the global transmission though it functions in local dimensions. Local conveyance is rare. The idea still taking shape behind the contemporary public communications is glocalization, i.e. mutual co-operation, binding both spaces together, especially global transmission and local reception. This is the so-called “third culture”. In this third culture, the book will no doubt retain its role within the educational and intellectual (reflexive) function, but it should rather change the character, space and the way of its informative effect, while there are many indications that its entertaining and compensative role will be admittedly reduced in various degrees.

Wykorzystanie metod programowania neurolingwistycznego (NLP) w kształtowaniu kultury organizacyjnej biblioteki
Pilitowska, Katarzyna
Uniwersytet Szczeciński, Biblioteka Główna
Neuro-linguistic programming is one of many methods used in the West to influence people’s attitudes towards work, their way of thinking and the motivation to work. Its originality stems from the fact that the method appeals in the main to non-material values such us: service orientation, social usefulness of one’s work, the sense of duty and satisfaction it gives, the resulting feeling of one’s high self-esteem. The NLP is included in the broadly-understood organizational culture applied in a given firm or an institution. The author maintains that thus understood neuro-linguistic programming can find its application in modem library practice and significantly improve modernization processes within its organizational culture.

Now that much of the civilized world is pursuing information that interests, appeals and enriches knowledge, the development of science and research can only be maintained if access to relevant publications and a possibility of sharing the knowledge on the results and conclusions of carried out research are properly secured. Addressing the demands emphasizing indispensable right of man to education and information formulated by the academic community, the idea of Open Access (of free and unlimited access to publications in science and the humanities) has followed. The article discusses setting up relevant repositories with a particular emphasis on institutional repositories at universities. The advantages and disadvantages of the idea are evaluated and discussed as well as relevant legal aspects and the place the institutional repository can occupy in scientific communication. The intention of the authors is to persuade the academic and scientific community in Poland to participate in setting up repositories, which would substantially enrich the propagation of knowledge and, within a given time perspective, enhance its better development.
