He also inspected the churches at the monasteries of the mendicant orders: the Dominicans, Carmelites of the Ancient Observance (two churches), the Minor Brothers Observants (known as Bernardines in Poland), Discalced Carmelites, Conventual Franciscans and Reformed Franciscans. Reports of the inspection visits contain information on the number of monks, the existence of a novitiate or a college in the convent and on the outlook of the churches. The visiting inspector paid special attention to such issues as indulgences, relics, brotherhoods, approval to administer the sacrament of penance and to preach sermons. What is particularly interesting is the religiosity of the faithful centered on the images and other objects of cult. ER -
