Journal History

The first issue of “Images. The International Journal of European Film, Performing Arts and Audiovisual Communication” was printed in 2003 at the Adam Mickiewicz University. It was initially published by Collegium Europaeum Gnesnense, and since 2009 by the Department of Film, Television and New Media. Since 2011, the journal has a regular cooperation with the Film School in Łódź. The founder and first Editor-in-Chief of „Images” was professor Marek Hendrykowski. Since 2012, associated professor Andrzej Szpulak has been the Editor-in-Chief.
The subject areas of the issues published so far encompass a whole spectre of problems related to audiovisual culture, from its connections with antiquity to film production culture, from the poetics of black-and-white images to overusing the Holocaust, from the icons of popular culture to the contemporary documentary cinema of Eastern and Central Europe.
