The authors point at the several problems that are met by a teacher who teaches Polish to deaf students. The problems are as following: low status of the Polish language among deaf students, the lack of positive motivation to learn Polish by these students, however they are strongly motivated to learn English that is also a foreign language to them. To improve this situation there should be made not only a change in the teaching process to teach Polish as a foreign language to deaf students, but also teachers should be aware of the fact that deaf students need to be considered as a bilingual and bicultural person.
