The main subject of the analyses, which align with the trends of reflections on the phenomenon of studies on social archives and follow the premises of memory linguistics, are the elements of the lexical level, i.e. collocations of the possessive pronouns mój, nasz (my, ours). In the discourse on the events of August 1944, they can be considered to be some of the significant determinants of individual and/or collective identities of the subjects. The search for answers to the questions about how the identity of the Warsaw Uprising participants is revealed at the level of selected biographical narrations, what
elements dominate there and how it is determined, allows for drawing some conclusions, including the final one: despite the expected predominance of individual identity (and personal views of the past), the examined relationships show a strong expansion of the sense of community which is evident even in the areas that fall within the domain of individual memory.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Beata Duda, Ewa Ficek https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27696 O kryteriach wyodrębniania terminów z XVI-wiecznych tekstów 2021-04-09T09:52:08+00:00 Lucyna Agnieszka Jankowiak pressto@amu.edu.pl
The article aims to present a method for identifying and extracting terms from sixteenth- century texts based on four criteria: a) textual – assuming that if a semantic unit’s meaning is confirmed only in texts characteristic of a specific field of science or knowledge, then it is a term of that period; b) linguistic – based on the information about the semantic unit originating from prestigious languages (Latin or/and Greek)
and provided by the author; c) disciplinary – based on the information about the semantic unit being used by a specific professional group and provided by the author; d) linguistic and disciplinary (which combines criteria 2 and 3).
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Lucyna Agnieszka Jankowiak https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27697 Czasowniki współczesnego śląskiego języka literackiego (płaszczyzna semantyczna, etymologiczna i morfologiczna) 2021-04-09T09:52:06+00:00 Henryk Jaroszewicz pressto@amu.edu.pl
The article provides the characteristics and classification of the most frequentative verbs and verb phrases used in contemporary Silesian literature. It has been established that the largest number of the studied forms is related to the different ways people physically influence the reality that surrounds them and mental processes (i.e. cognitive, evaluative and descriptive ones). The lexical diversity between Polish standard lexis and Silesian literary usage amounts to fifty-eight percent. What influences this diversity is the presence of words of German and Czech origin which amount to almost a tenth of the Silesian lexicon. Slightly less than half of the verbs are derived forms, in the vast majority formed through prefixation, aspect suffixation and postfixation. The semantic and morphological structure of the studied verb forms demonstrates a farreaching intellectualisation and formal complexity of the Silesian lexicon.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Henryk Jaroszewicz https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27698 Język i transmisja kulturowa w tatarskich kitabach. Religious manuscripts, including kitabs, are a part of Tatars’ cultural legacy, hence the article presents these writings and the areas of research on kitabs that cover: a) cataloguing the manuscripts; b) monographic studies providing their philological analysis; c) discussion of their content, with attention to Muslim and Christian traditions; d) textual analysis of these old texts; e) editorial preparations.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Joanna Kulwicka-Kamińska https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27699 Świadomość językowa i zainteresowania językoznawcze Adama Naruszewicza 2021-04-09T09:52:02+00:00 Tadeusz Lewaszkiewicz pressto@amu.edu.pl
Adam Naruszewicz, the eminent Enlightenment-era writer and father of modern Polish historiography was, like many authors before and after him, interested in linguistic issues. In his letters and in a preface to a translation of Tacitus’ works, he discussed the style of literary texts as well as the culture and the proper use of Polish among eighteenth-century educated classes. In his historical works, he advanced etymological
ideas, both his own and those borrowed from other authors, and also mentioned the relationships between Indo-European and non-Indo-European languages.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Tadeusz Lewaszkiewicz https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27704 Nazwy sekwatywne w Słowniku języka polskiego Samuela Bogumiła Lindego nienotowane w Słowniku polszczyzny XVI wieku 2021-04-09T09:51:59+00:00 Paulina Michalska-Górecka pressto@amu.edu.pl
The article aims to discuss the names of Reformation-related religious dissenters included in Samuel Bogumił Linde’s Słownik języka polskiego (Polish language dictionary) which are not listed in Słownik polszczyzny XVI wieku (16th-century Polish language dictionary). The analysis of the material shows that Linde’s dictionary is a valuable, multi-layer complement to the sixteenth-century vocabulary listed in
Słownik polszczyzny XVI wieku in the area of names of Reformation-related religious dissenters. First, Linde records sixteenth-century vocabulary related to the religious fractions of the time that is missing from Słownik polszczyzny XVI wieku even though it was in use at the time. Importantly, whenever he provides the source of a given lexeme, it is rarely from the sixteenth century. The lexicon also includes feminine forms of believers missing from Słownik polszczyzny XVI wieku that originated from the masculine forms listed in both dictionaries. Finally, Linde’s work presents the evolution of each religion and the emergence of new fractions, especially in the Orthodox Church
and post-Reformation churches, hence it includes the names of believers of religions that emerged after the sixteenth century.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Paulina Michalska-Górecka https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27705 Oznaczanie palatalności l w drukach polskich z XVI wieku 2021-04-09T09:51:57+00:00 Marek Osiewicz pressto@amu.edu.pl
The article presents the results of an analysis of marking of palatal l in prints from the source database of Słownik polszczyzny XVI wieku (16th-century Polish language dictionary). The analysis takes into account the various conditions of this phenomenon: functional, frequency, contextual, textual, regional and publishing ones. The analysis shows that the rare records of the consonant l’ certified in the papers originated from the spelling of manuscripts. Most often, they appear in printed texts from the first half of the sixteenth century, mainly in the earliest texts and dictionaries, as well as in texts originating from southern Poland and southern Borderlands. Marking of palatal l in printed materials is characterised by a high degree of lexicalisation and dependence on the phonetic context and less dependent on the place of publication.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Marek Osiewicz https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27706 Ze starego do nowego świata. Obraz miasta w Listach z podróży do Ameryki Henryka Sienkiewicza 2021-04-09T09:51:54+00:00 Magdalena Pietrzak pressto@amu.edu.pl
The article aims to present the linguistic means (stylistic methods and vocabulary) used by Henryk Sienkiewicz to create the image of European and American cities in his Listy z podróży do Ameryki. The author of the article also analyses the descriptions of experiencing large and modern cities, proving that the images of European and Americancities perceived and described from a European’s perspective were contrasted. It is the consequence of perceiving European agglomerations as cultural and historic centres cultivating traditional values in contrast to the mainly industrial American cities serving as trading centres full of action and fast-paced life. The choice of linguistic means used to describe urban buildings was determined by the viewpoint of the perceiving subject and the perspective from which the act of perceiving was accomplished.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Magdalena Pietrzak https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27707 Z prac nad edycją Diariusza legationis JWJMci Pana Strażnika Wielkiego Koronnego odprawionej roku 1732 2021-04-09T09:51:52+00:00 Michał Rzepka pressto@amu.edu.pl
In this article, the author merely indicates the selected results of the work on the edition of Diariusz legationis JWJMci Pana Strażnika Wielkiego Koronnego odprawionej roku 1732 (The diary of the 1732 diplomatic journey of Crown Great Guard) kept in the archives of Adam Mickiewicz University Library in Poznań. The research carried out in order to prepare the editorial work presented in this article was focused on the authenticity, source and the author of the text. The analysed diary is a late-eighteenthor early-nineteenth-century copy of an earlier version made between 1744 and 1826 – which is when it was acquired for the library of Czerniejewo-Radomice owned by the Skórzewski Counts. It was dated as a result of research that covered such issues as the paper it was written on, the watermarks in it and the entries describing its origin. The copy was made in a manor, most likely in Waplewo Wielkie owned by the Sierakowski family of the Ogończyk coat of arms. It has been determined that apart from the copy kept in the University Library in Poznań and a related record of the diplomatic journey published in Kuryer Polski (Polish Courier) from 1732 to 1733, there were at least two versions of the text: a diary included in the collection of Waplewo library and the original it was a copy of, which could be both the diary and additional documents and letters related to the diplomatic journey.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Michał Rzepka https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27708 Obraz życia wspólnotowego w dobie średniopolskiej na podstawie górnośląskich ksiąg sądowych 2021-04-09T09:51:49+00:00 Mirosława Siuciak pressto@amu.edu.pl
The article presents excerpts from Polish-language court records made from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century in Upper Silesia. Emerging from these books is an image of life in small communities as seen through the lens of financial transactions, inheritance processes, financial claims within families, cases of disorderly behaviourand violations of social order. The quoted fragments show how the society and the officials representing it managed establishing legal rules for the community and how legal texts were constructed. Although they reflect the schematic manner typical of official regulations, many of the phrases they include allow us to recreate the method used for the construction of the text or even their author’s thought process (writing it or commissioning its writing to a qualified official). These texts provide an opportunity to reconstruct the system of values that served as a basis for the functioning of a given community and the internal hierarchy that guaranteed social order.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Mirosława Siuciak https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27709 „Co choroba, to doktor...”. O językowo-kulturowym obrazie lekarza w polszczyźnie 2021-04-09T09:51:47+00:00 Elżbieta Skorupska-Raczyńska pressto@amu.edu.pl
Healing traditions are very likely to have roots in the beginnings of any civilisation, which comes from the natural needs of a human striving for physical and mental comfort. On ethnically Polish lands, medical culture developed together with the society, which is reflected in the names of healers. The linguistic and cultural image of a doctor is affected by the anthropocentric experiences of speakers of Polish, stereotypes and the media that strengthen its versions, all recorded in the lexis, phraseology and paremiography. Today (according to the survey), negative traits of doctors (31) are significantly more common than their virtues (9) that include: being specific, accurate, efficient, devoted to duty and caring. According to the survey, today’s doctor is, most of all, in a hurry, overworked and tired, but also dissatisfied, uninterested in the patient, impatient, late, cold and always angry. People’s focus on doctors’ negative traits has been a permanent phenomenon for centuries.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Elżbieta Skorupska-Raczyńska https://pressto.amu.edu.pl/index.php/pspsj/article/view/27710 Tytuły w dawnej prasie popularnonaukowej (na przykładzie „Nowych Wiadomości Ekonomicznych i Uczonych” 1758–1761) 2021-04-09T09:51:44+00:00 Agnieszka Szczaus pressto@amu.edu.pl
The article analyses the structure and functions of seventy-three titles extracted from the first Polish-language popular-science journal, i.e. Nowe Wiadomości Ekonomiczne i Uczone. It was determined that the examined titles included both uninomial and binomial titles (25) as well as multinomial ones (48). Uninomial titles relate only to relatively short texts whose publication fell within a single issue of the journal. Long texts, divided into several parts and published in subsequent issues of the journal, had multinomial titles. The analysed titles (just as in the case of the titles of strictly-scientific modern articles) fulfilled the informative and substantial function. However, they did not perform the pragmatic and persuasive functions typical of the headlines present in modern popular-science press.
2020-12-15T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Agnieszka Szczaus
