Focus and Scope
PJLS intends to foster the development of humanistic studies of landscape, adopting the framework of cultural landscape studies, a transdisciplinary approach capable of addressing the multiaspectual nature of landscape and performing as an intermediary between disciplines which have traditionally been involved in research and critical deliberation concerning landscape. Hence, the principal object of investigation is landscape and the multitude of associated problems which contemporary humanities attempt to tackle. PJLS is addressed to those involved or interested in landscape research carried out within various scholarly paradigms (aesthetics, history of art, history, cultural studies, geography, anthropology, archaeology, landscape design and urban development). Consequently, PJLS offers a platform for dialogue and discourse, aimed to accomplish a ‘humanistic shift’ in landscape studies and a ‘landscape shift’ in sciences focusing on culture. The journal aspires to demonstrate the vital significance of landscape for the fundamental relationships of the human with the world, manifested in the human attitude to the world and ways in which it is experienced. PJLS will be looking for insightful answers to the core questions: What is landscape? What makes it distinct among other cultural phenomena? How do we experience landscape and what is the impact of the experience on us?

During the first stage, the Editorial Team will assess the submission with respect to form and, preliminarily, with respect to substance. Criteria taken into consideration include: compliance with editorial requirements, suitability given the profile of the journal and language correctness.
In the second stage, the submission will be referred to two independent reviewers who are not members of the editorial team.
The submissions remain confidential and anonymous, according to the principles of double-blind reviewing (authors and reviewers do not know their respective names). Reviewers are not permitted to make use of their knowledge of the work prior to publication.
Reviewers will enter their evaluation in the form developed and provided by the PJLS (available for download from PJLS website)
Reviews must contain unequivocal conclusion to the effect that the submission be either published, revised, corrected, amended, or rejected. In cases where evaluations of both reviewers are negative, the paper will be disqualified. In a situation where only one evaluation is negative, the Editors may request that the author makes necessary corrections and resubmits the paper.
The names of reviewers for successive issues of the journal are not revealed; a list of all collaborating reviewers will be published once a year.
