Focus and Scope
Studia Celtica Posnaniensia is an international, peer-reviewed journal of Celtic Studies, published annually in both print and electronic formats by the Faculty of English, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland.
The journal publishes original research articles covering all aspects of Celtic linguistics, literatures, cultures, and history. In addition, it features discussion papers, review articles, reply articles, and book reviews. Studia Celtica Posnaniensia provides a forum for high-quality scholarship across a broad range of topics in Celtic Studies, including:
- linguistic research on the Celtic languages
- language policy, revitalisation, planning, and maintenance
- Welsh, Irish, Breton, Scottish Gaelic, Manx, and Cornish literature (modern and medieval)
- Welsh writing in English
- Celtic folklore
- Celtic diasporas worldwide
- Archaeology
- teaching and learning of Celtic languages
- cultures of the Celtic countries
The journal operates on a continuous submission basis, offering immediate online publication upon completion of the editorial and production processes.

Plagiarism policy
To ensure the originality and high quality of the published articles, the Editorial Board uses Similarity Check System anti-plagiarism system powered by iThenticate software. This system enables comprehensive screening of manuscripts to identify textual similarities by comparing submissions with publications available on the Internet and in indexed databases. It generates a report indicating the sources of matching fragments. Manuscripts in which material from other authors is found to be improperly cited or plagiarized will be rejected by the Editorial Board. If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the Editorial Board will retract the text and publish a notice to that effect on the journal’s website and/or in the print version.
Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement
The ethics policies for Studia Celtica Posnaniensia are based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors. Everyone involved in the publication process (the author, the journal editor(s), the peer reviewer and the publisher) is required to follow the standards of ethical behavior.
EDITOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Publication Decisions
- The Editor makes a decision whether to accept or reject the submitted
- The decision is based on its relevance to the scope of the journal, originality, importance, clarity and coherence of argument. These decisions are based on the journal’s editorial policies and relevant legal requirements (e.g., those regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism).
- The Editor evaluates manuscripts solely on their scholarly merit without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the author(s).
- The Editor may consult with fellow editors or reviewers when making publication decisions.
- The editor should work to guarantee a fair and appropriate peer review process.
- The Editor is also accountable for everything published in the journal.
Confidentiality
- Any details about a manuscript under review are kept confidential and shared only with the author(s), reviewers and potential reviewers, and in some instances the editorial board members, only where necessary.
- The Editor-in-Chief and editorial staff are required not to reveal any information about a submitted papers to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, prospective reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, when appropriate.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
- Editors must withdraw from handling manuscripts where they have the conflict of interests stemming from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or (possibly) institutions connected to the papers.
- When conflict of interest occurs, the editor should delegate responsibility to a co-editor, associate editor or other member of the editorial board instead to review and consider.
- Contributors are required to disclose relevant competing interests. If such interests are revealed after publication, the journal should issue a correction. If needed, other appropriate measures, such as a retraction or expression of concern, should be taken
- Editors are responsible for protecting the integrity and investigating suspected or alleged research and publication misconduct.
- Editors should also examine any reviewer and editorial misconduct. When ethical concerns have been raised about a submitted or published paper, the editor should take reasonably responsive and timely measures.
Originality and Plagiarism
- The Editor will follow COPE’s Guidelines for Retracting Articles when considering retracting, issuing expressions of concern about, and issuing corrections pertaining to articles that have been published in Studia Celtica Posnaniensia.
- Unpublished content disclosed in the submitted manuscript must not be used in The Editor-in-Chief and the members of the editorial staff’s own research without the author’s written consent.
AUTHOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting Standards
- The authors of manuscripts should present an accurate description of the work conducted along with an objective discussion of its significance. The supporting data must be reported accurately in the manuscript.
- A manuscript should contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or deliberately misleading statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
Acknowledgement of sources
- The authors must ensure that their work is fully original, any ideas, text, or materials taken from others are appropriately cited or quoted.
Use of AI and large-language models
- Authors must disclose the use of generative AI (large-language models) in the preparation of the manuscript, except for basic language corrections, and editing.
- It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that the any generative AI output is valid and correct.
- Generative AI tools and automated tools cannot be cited as sources.
Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication
- An author should avoid publishing manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Parallel submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal is considered unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
Authorship of the Paper
- Authors must always give appropriate credit to the contributions of others.
- Authors should also cite publications that significantly influenced the development of their work.
- Authorship should be limited to those who have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study.
- Everyone who has made significant contribution should be listed as a co-author. Others who contributed to specific parts of the research should be recognized in the Acknowledgements section.
- The corresponding author is responsible for making sure that all appropriate co-authors (according to the above definition) and no inappropriate co-authors are included in the author list of the manuscript, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.
- All authors must disclose in their manuscript any financial or other significant conflicts of interest that might be seen as affecting the results or their interpretation in the manuscript.
- Additionally, all sources of financial support for the research project should be disclosed.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
- When an author identifies a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal’s editor or publisher and cooperate with them to either retract the paper or to publish a suitable correction.
- Instances of alleged or proven scientific misconduct, fraudulent publication or plagiarism, the publisher, working closely with the editors, will take all appropriate steps to address the issue and to amend the article in question. This may involve issuing a prompt correction (erratum) or, in serious cases, fully retracting the affected article.
REVIEWER RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
- Peer review supports the editor in making editorial decisions and, through editorial feedback with the author, may also assist the author in improving the manuscript.
- Any invited reviewer who believes they lack the necessary expertise to evaluate the manuscript or knows that its timely review will be impossible should promptly notify the editor so that alternative reviewers can be assigned.
Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest
- Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shared or discussed with anyone else unless authorized by the editor.
- Information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal benefit.
- Reviewers should not consider evaluating any manuscript where a conflict of interest exists resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the submission.
Objectivity
- Reviews should be carried out objectively and impartially. Personal criticism of the author is inacceptable.
- Reviewers should present their opinions clearly with appropriate supporting arguments.
Acknowledgement of Sources and Reporting Standards
- Reviewers should point out relevant and important published work that has been overlooked by the author(s). If a claim, result, or line of reasoning has already been reported elsewhere, it should be supported with the proper reference.
- A reviewer must inform the editor about any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published work of which they are personally aware.
