Abstract

Japan is a country with a low divorce rate. This is due to the fact that the concept of 'family‘, which is more important than the bond between spouses is deeply rooted in Japanese mentality. However, the divorce rate is increasing every year. In Japan, the most common procedure of divorce is the divorce by mutual consent of spouses without a trial. In this case, relevant documents include: 'the divorce notice‘, which is comparable with the Polish divorce petition and 'the family register excerpt‘, which is an official document confirming the identity of a Japanese citizen. To translate these documents into Polish language translators need pay attention to archaic legal terms as well as differences between the structure and various elements of Polish and Japanese documents.
