Abstract
After the city was taken over by Hitler's army, the textile industry in Łódź quickly passed into German hands. The operation of taking over factories owned by Polish or Jewish people was initially carried out by the military occupation authorities.
They were authorized to appoint provisional administrators in these factories.
The takeover of the factories under provisional administration was essentially equivalent to the expropriation of the previous owner. Later, the powers of the military authorities in this area were taken over by the Haupttreuhandstelle Ost (HTO). A branch of the HTO expositor in Poznan was located in Łódź.
The provisional administrators of the textile factories in Łódź were mostly resident Germans and resettlers from Estonia and Latvia who arrived in Łódź at the end of 1939. In contrast, Germans from the Reich territory represented a relatively small number of administrators.
