Abstract

The article presents selected examples of the distribution of Czech numerals in speech. It points out a conspicuous feature, i.e. the frequent occurence of feminine numerals both in elementary counting (one, two) and using fractions (one half),decimals (one point three), powers (the second power of two) and proportions (one to free). The predominance of feminine gender is reflected also in questions like that of the numerousness of repetition (How many times?) The „round“ form of the numeral 0 explains some designations like round birthday, round anniversary, round jubilee.
