Abstract
The study examines the grammatical profiles of Czech diminutives and their base nouns. It is based on the assumption that diminutives will exhibit a similar distribution of morphological categories (gender-number-case patterns) as their non-diminutive counterparts. The analysis, drawing on data from the SYN2020 corpus and the GramatiKat tool, showed that most pairs display a high degree of similarity, especially when the diminutive is not significantly more frequent than the base form. Differences were found in lexemes that have developed functional specialization (e.g., vzorek, titulek). The results support the hypothesis of similarity in grammatical behavior but also demonstrate that frequency-dominant diminutives may show features of quasi-diminutives.
