Abstract
The study examines how the European Union drives the energy transition of its Member States, using Sweden as a case study, a leader in the global energy transition. As a global leader, Sweden serves as an ideal benchmark for the effectiveness of the European Union's energy transition efforts. The study answered the research problems: P1: What is the impact of the European Union as a driver of energy transition on Sweden's energy transition? P2: What main benefits does Sweden gain from implementing the EU energy policy? The answer was based on a qualitative analysis of the selected sources, including official and current Swedish strategic documents on energy transition, as well as analytical and statistical sources from Swedish government agencies. The European Union is a driver of energy transition through legislation, financing, and the ability to legitimise implemented reforms, as well as a forum for cooperation. However, for a country like Sweden, EU action is insufficient, and Sweden is forced to modify EU law to be more radical and better suited to its transition.
