Abstract
This monograph is the outcome of a scientific conference organized by the German Ma- riological Society (Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Mariologie) in 2023 in Weltenburg. Its title Mary and eschatology does not immediately indicate that the volume focuses on eschatological events viewed from a Marian perspective. The book comprises fourteen chapters. The opening chapter introduces the selected themes, presents the contributing authors, and outlines the specific issues they address. The subsequent chapters are noteworthy for the breadth of their topics the diversity of approaches, and the range of sources analyzed: from Dante’s Divine Comedy to the Fatima revelations; from the works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Thomas Mann to the eschatological visions of the saints such as Bernard of Clairvaux and Brigid of Sweden; and from ancient writings (e.g., Peter Damiani, Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort) and modern theologians (e.g., K. Rahner, A. Ziegenaus, C. Pozo) to reflections on the eschatological symbolism of Marian shrines (Aachen Cathedral, Santa Maria Scala Coeli, Rome, Maria am Gestade, Vienna).
