Abstract
The ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war has caused the turn away from Postmodernism and towards Metamodernism, whose aesthetic principles are based on the sincerity and enthusiasm that are the markers and values of the new worldview. The war also reactivates the heritage and values of existential philosophy in Ukrainian literature that Yaryna Chornohuz justifies by naming it ‘neoexistentialism’, a style, aesthetics and philosophy that give meaning to complicated human choices and traumatic liminal experiences. The article aims to analyse the existential motifs in Chornohuz’s poetry. Using methods such as imagology, mythopoetics, intertextualism, and feminine studies, the poetics and essence of existential motifs in the poetry of the author analysed. The results indicate that the existential motifs of choice in Chornohuz’s could be retraced from the different perspectives: from the perspective of combatants who defend their homeland, a woman who makes a choice to be beyond the traditional gender role, a person who struggles with their own pain and traumatic feelings, a witness to the war, who makes a choice to remember, testify and be present. These motifs stem from the war, which also caused the turn towards neo-existentialism as a trend within Metamodernism.
