Aims and Scope

Purpose and thematic scope of the journal

The main purpose of the journal is to publish the results of scientific researches related to Ukrainian studies. It is addressed to all the Polish and foreign experts and admirers of the Ukrainian culture. The journal publishes papers on Ukrainian philology, Polish-Ukrainian confrontational linguistics, problems of teaching a foreign language (in particular, Ukrainian as a foreign), Polish-Ukrainian comparative approaches in literary, linguistic and cultural fields, theoretical and practical aspects of translation studies. Studia Ukrainica Posnaniensia’s leading discipline is philological research (literary and linguistic), but folklore, anthropological, cultural and historiographical articles are also welcome.

Articles are published in Ukrainian, Polish and English, with abstracts in each of the above languages, thanks to which the journal has an international reach.

The journal is open to expanding the dialogue in the field of Ukrainian studies. Editorial Board is interested in publishing materials that reflect an in-depth understanding of the problems of the Ukrainian language, literature, philosophical thought, religion and history. The editors invite authors to present interdisciplinary and innovative research, inspiring discussions and polemics. This makes it possible to determine the directions and ways of development of Ukrainian studies, which now includes a cultural studies perspective largely than before. 60-80 percent of publications by authors with foreign affiliation have been published in recent years.

History of the journal 

Since its establishment in 2013, "Studia Ukrainica Posnaniensia" has been operating as a yearly, and since 2019 as a semi-annual.

Review process

Basic rules for reviewing publications in the Studia Ukrainica Posnaniensia journal

1.The Editorial Board  make a preliminary assessment of the text and verify it using an anti-plagiarism program.

2. Two reviewers, independent of each other, who are recognized experts in the field to which the given thematic volume relates, are appointed to evaluate each publication. For texts by foreign authors, at least one of the reviewers is affiliated with a foreign institution outside the country in which the author is affiliated.

3. The reviewing of texts takes place in accordance with the double-blind review process, which allows maintaining the anonymity of the author and the reviewer. For the needs of the reviewers, the Editors of the journal is responsible for removing from the article such information as: the author's name, affiliation, e-mail address, acknowledgments, indication of sources of funding, if it makes it possible to identify him or her.

4. The review needs to be in written and it has include the conclusion whether the paper should be printed without any changes, after corrections or rejected. In case of conflicting opinions (one negative and one positive) of reviewers, the article will be rejected. However, the author may ask the Scientific Council of the journal to appoint another reviewer, whose opinion is conclusive. The application addressed to the Editorial Board must indicate the reasons why, in the applicant's view, the article should be subject to further evaluation.

5. The names of the reviewers of individual publications are disclosed within 6 months of the end of the month in which the paper version of the journal containing the reviewed text was published

Open Access Policy

The journal provides immediate and open access (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, CC BY-NC-SA) to all its contents, in accordance with the statement that an unlimited access to research facilitates and stimulates the global development of science and exchange of knowledge. The editors encourage the authors to replace their articles published in the journal to open access repositories (the publisher's final version, VoR) as long as they provide a link to journal's website and article's DOI number.
The journal does not charge any fees for submitting and reviewing manuscripts, as well as for publishing articles.

Copyright Terms

The authors of published texts are the copyright holders. They retain the copyright rights without restrictions.

Anti-plagiarism Policy

In order to guarantee originality and high quality of the published articles, the journal follows the established procedures in their evaluation and is a member of the CrossCheck service. CrossCheck is an initiative established by CrossRef and iThenticate, whose aim is to provide publishers with professional support in preventing plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct. The system is a high-quality tool for comparing documents against the largest database of academic content in the world, obtained from numerous publishers. Papers found to have borrowed from other authors incorrectly or plagiarized will be rejected by the editors, and any violation of copyright or good scientific practices will be reported to the management of the institutions employing the author.

The editors of the journal are committed to maintaining ethical standards in scientific publications and takes every step against neglect and weaknesses in this area.

The standards of publication ethics and scientific integrity applicable to the quarterly "Studia Ukrainica Posnaniensia" are consistent with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)

Making a decision about the publication of the article the Editorial Board is obliged to observe legal norms, especially in the field of copyright.

Non-discrimination

In the field of non-discrimination, the Editorial Board is doing in accordance with the applicable law of the Republic of Poland.

Confidentiality/disclosure and conflict of interest

Members of the Editorial Board may not disclose information about the article submitted for publication (including the content of the reviews) to third parties (to persons who do not participate in the publication). The Editors do not disclose information about the authors to the reviewers or information about the reviewers to the authors. The reviewer shall not be called upon to review the article if there is any cooperation or other relationships between the reviewer and the author.

Members of the Editorial Board may not quote or refer in any other way to the content of the articles that have not yet been published without the consent of their authors.

Editorial decisions

The reviewer supports the editors in making decisions regarding the publication of the article.

Deadlines

The reviewer is obliged to declare whether he or she will complete the work within the prescribed period. If he/she considers that it is not possible to make a review within this period, he/she should inform the Editorial Board about it.

Objectivity standards

The reviews must be objective. The opinion about the reviewed article may not contain comments of a personal nature or value judgements not justified by substantive arguments. Comments made by reviewers should be constructive and meaningful.

Confidentiality/disclosure and conflict of interest

All reviews are confidential. They cannot be shown or discussed with others than members of the Editorial Board. Any doubts, critical and polemic remarks should be marked in the review. The content of the review should also be treated as a confidential document. The reviewer shall not use the evaluated articles or their fragments for his or her own purposes.

Anonymity

All reviews are made anonymously. The Editors do not share the authors' data with the reviewers.

Sources confirmation

The reviewer should inform the Editorial Board of any suspected infringement of copyright in the reviewed text and pay attention to any deficiencies or mistakes in footnotes.

The authors’ responsibilities

Authorship of the work/disclosure of funding sources /conflict of interests

Collective works submitted for publishing must be accompanied by information about the actual number of authors, the authors' affiliation, as well as their contribution to the work. Authorship should be limited to those who have written the article directly. Other persons involved in the work on the article should be listed in the footnote as cooperating persons, e.g. field research contractors.

The author(s) is(are) also obliged to provide, where relevant, information about the sources of financing of the paper, the contribution of scientific and research institutions and associations, or other entities and about any conflicts of interest that may affect its results or interpretation.

The Editorial Board is obliged to remind that ghostwriting and guest authorship are considered manifestations of scientific unreliability, and any such cases will be exposed. Relevant entities (institutions employing authors, scientific societies, associations of scientific editors, etc.) will be also informed about this.

Ghostwriting means hiding a significant contribution of another author to the paper.

„Guest authorship” means claiming the authorship of a person whose contribution to the work was insignificant or non-existent.

The author submits a statement aimed at preventing ghostwriting/guest authorship practices.

Data access / Data maintenance

Authors may be asked to provide raw data on the paper submitted for publication.

Multiple publication

Submitting the same paper to more than one journal at the same time is unethical and is not allowed.

Fundamental errors in published works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, he/she is obliged to promptly notify the journal Editorial Board. The Editors, having found out about significant errors from third parties, takes the necessary steps to correct them accordingly.

Originality and Plagiarism Policy / Confirmation of sources of the article

 Authors submit only original papers to the Editorial Office. Each quote or statement referring to the hypotheses or research results of other scientists should cite the source publication in which they were formulated. Authors of the submitted articles should ensure that the names of authors cited in their works and/or parts of cited works are properly identified. The authors cannot refer to information obtained privately, without the express consent of the sources concerned. They also cannot use confidential information without the permission of the relevant authorities.

The Editorial Board are obliged to document all manifestations of scientific misconduct, in particular violating of the ethical principles of science.
