Abstract
The name of Maksym Kryvtsov, a soldier, poet, photographer, and volunteer, is one of the most prominent in twenty-first century war poetry. The author’s sole work, Poems from the Loophole, is extremely relevant not only as a diary of war operations and the author’s feelings related to them; it should be considered a collection of poetry by a professional writer with vivid motifs, extraordinary construction, and interesting dramaturgy of the poem. The article analyzes a number of poems by Kryvtsov, where religious motifs and ones of life and death, time, etc. are expressed. The conclusion is that the poet’s work is characterized by a special state of enlightenment inherent to people who have experienced a great deal. The book guides the reader through the author’s feelings, places and events – romantic or terrible, frankly naturalistic. Kryvtsov shows both the importance and ephemerality of earthly life, and in a Christian way builds up his soul and prepares it for the transition to the next world; after all, a person in war is directly involved in death, and dies psychologically many times. Kryvtsov abstracts himself, rises above the ordinary, and calmly, sometimes even ironically, relates what he has seen. However, he also knows how to convey life with piercing accuracy through images of nature, using all the senses.
