Aims and Scope

Bohemistics sets itself the goal bringing together the research workers and all that sympathize with the subject, like also all that are interested in bohemistic, the journal will consist of – apart from the scientific – the review and the report sections. Publications on the Czech language and literature as well as comparative works are printed.

Basic Rules For Review Of Submitted Works

  • Submitted articles are processed to a preliminary assessment by the Editorial Board.
  • Texts originally accepted for publication will be submitted to two independent reviewers (texts in a foreign language are sent to at least one reviewer, affiliated with a foreign institution other than the nationality of the author).
  • Reviewers are not affiliated with the same institution from which are they, and are not in business with the author, do not remain with the author in a conflict of interest or a close personal relations, also not remain in a direct scientific cooperation over the past two years prior to preparing the review of text.
  • Reviewers are not members of the Scientific Council and are competent in the specific field and have appropriate academic achievements.
  • Editors applying the principle of double blind peer review, controls that reviewers and authors do not know their identity.
  • When a group of specialists in the field is too narrow to preserve the principle set out in paragraph no. 3, may occur the exception to this rule.
  • Editors leaves discretion in deciding whether to accept or reject the text of the review to reviewers.
  • Reviewers are required to maintain confidentiality until publication of the reviewed text.
  • A standard form of a review can be found on the website www.bohemistyka.pl in a tab Procedure of reviewing.
  • Reviewer passes to the editors review prepared in an electronic form and on a paper with handwritten signature, which is stored in the newsroom for a period of two years. Review should end with an explicit request for release or not of an article for publication.
  • Editors will not accept reviews that do not comply with the substantive and procedural requirements of peer review and is not compatible with the sent design review.
  • Submitted reviewer comments are sent to the author of text, who must take into account the recommendations of reviewers to improve the text. However, reviewers are entitled to re-examine the revised text.
  • If the author does not agree with the conclusions of the reviewer, he has the right to respond to them. Then decision to publish the text will be taken by the Editor with the support of the members of the Scientific Council on the basis of observations and conclusions contained in the review, along with any answers by the author of text and final version of that text provided by the author.
  • Reviews of articles are made free of charge by following a previously used custom.
  • Rejected articles by the reviewers are archived in the editorial for a period of two years.
  • Once a year the editors publish on a paper, and continuously on a website, an updated full list of reviewers, with whom the editors work.

The magazine is published in the last month of the quarter, the paper version is the original version.

Open Access Policy
The primary version of the journal is the paper version. All printed texts will be posted on the website only 3 months after their printing in the paper version.
By submitting a text for publication in "Bohemistyka", the author consents to its placement on the journal's website, as well as in the SCOPUS, CEJSH (The Central European Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities), CEEOL (Central and Eastern European Online Library), EBSCO Discovery Service, ERIH PLUS, PBN (Polish Scientific Database), POL-on, Pol-Index, Pressto and AMUR (Adam Mickiewicz University Repository) databases.

Ethics

ETHICAL STANDARDS

The mission of this journal is to contribute to the development of science as well as the development of knowledge and bohemic research in the world. Editor and publisher adopt a neutral stance on the issues printed in the journal. "Bohemistyka" wants to contribute to the academic debate, regardless of debate topics' nature. Publication of an article in "Bohemistyka" has several functions, one of which is to confirm and show the date, accurate and reliable research. The authors, editor, reviewers, the publisher and editors board want to fulfil the obligation to ensure ethical standards at all stages of their commitment from the submission of article to the publication of an article. We follow closely associations, such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Committee of Ethics in Science (Komitet Etyki w Nauce, KEwN), which set standards and provide guidance on best practices in order to meet these requirements. Below are our key expectations for editors, reviewers and authors.

1. ETHICAL EXPECTATIONS

1.1. Editors' responsibilities

a) The editor performs his duties in a balanced, objective and fair manner way especially without discrimination on grounds of sex, sexual orientation, religious or political beliefs, ethnic or geographical origin of the authors.
b) Articles for publication in the "Bohemistyka" are accepted only on the base of their scientific value, academic merit and without commercial influence.
c) The editor should accept and follow reasonable procedures for complaints of an ethical nature in accordance with the policies and procedures adopted by the editorial board, as appropriate. This should give author a reasonable opportunity to respond to the complaint. All complaints should be investigated, regardless of when the publication was approved for printing. Documentation related to such complaints should be retained.

1.2. Reviewers' responsibilities

a) The reviewer should contribute to the decision-making process as well he should help improve the quality of published articles by reviewing the manuscript objectively and in a timely manner.
b) The reviewer should maintain confidentiality of all information provided by the editor or author. He should not keep or copy the manuscript.
c) The reviewer should inform the editor about the content of published or submitted article in "Bohemistyka", which is set for publication elsewhere and is substantially similar to the reviewed content.
d) Reviewer must be aware of potential conflicts of interest (financial, institutional, partnership or other relationship between the reviewer and the author), as well notify about that the editor, and, if necessary, withdraws his services for this manuscript.

1.3. Authors' responsibilities

a) The author agrees to maintain accurate records of data relating to the work and contributions which he made (to ensure access to these data, upon reasonable request) and if necessary withdraws their services for this manuscript. In appropriate cases where the employer permits, for financing entity and others who may have an interest in it, this data is deposited in the AMUR data repository for future use.
b) The author should confirm that the article submitted for print is not considered or accepted for publication elsewhere. If portions of the content are in line with the published or passed article, they should acknowledge and cite the source. In addition, the editor should provide a copy of any work that may contain similar parts or closely related content.
c) The author should confirm that all the research in the work is genuine and recognized. Content reproduced from other sources should be cited, and author has to gain permission to reproduce content from other sources.
d) Authors should ensure that all research involving human subjects are consistent with national laws and requirements. Authors should obtain express consent from these people and respect their privacy.
e) The author should inform the editor of any potential conflicts of interest (for example, when the author has an interest that could be considered or perceived as exerting undue influence on journal editors at any time in the course of publication).
f) The author should immediately notify the editor or publisher of "Bohemistyka" when he notice a significant error in his publication, and then together with the editor must develop and publish the erratum, addendum, corrigendum notice or, if necessary, withdraw from printing the article.

1.4. Publisher's responsibilities

a) Publisher of the "Bohemistyka" ensures that good practice is maintained to the standards set out above.
b) For more detailed procedures for ethical standards determined and notified for editor and its editorial board see chapter II.
c) Editors of "Bohemistyka" assure that the publisher agrees to the principles outlined above or substantially similar rules, either adopting these formally or producing their own for the attention of their editors and editorial boards.

2. PROCEDURES FOR DEALING WITH UNETHICAL BEHAVIOUR

2.1. Identification of unethical behaviour

a) Unethical behavior can be identified and brought to the editors and publishers at any time and by anyone.
b) Unethical behavior may include only examples that are described above.
c) Person who informs of unethical behavior should provide the editor or publisher a sufficient information and evidence to initiate appropriate proceedings. All complaints should be taken seriously and treated in the same way, until the final decision was taken.

2.2. Investigation

a) An initial decision should be taken by the editor, who, if necessary, should consult the publisher.
b) The evidence of misconduct should be gathered and should not be propagated outside with the exception of those allegations, which should be published.

2.3. Minor breaches

In the case of minor misconduct editor can manage misconduct without the need for wider consultation; in any case, the author should be given the opportunity to respond to any allegations.

2.4. Major breaches

In the case of serious misconduct it may require notifying the employer about defendant's situation. Editor-publisher or editor-society agreement should decide if there is a need to involve employers in the analysis of the available evidence or if there is a need for further consultation with experts.

2.5. Outcomes

a) Informing the author or reviewer, when it seems that this is a misunderstanding or misapplication of acceptable standards.
b) Strongly worded letter to the author or reviewer, including misconduct and as a warning for future behaviour.
c) Publication of a formal and detailed notice or an editorial detailing the misconduct.
d) A formal letter to the authors' or reviewers' university or funding agency.
e) The official withdrawal of publication from "Bohemistyka", coupled with information for the head author or reviewer.
f) Prohibition of publishing scientific papers by persons, who were caught on misconduct (for a defined period).
g) Reporting the case and passing the results to a professional organization or higher authority for further investigation.

History

The journal was established in 2001 at the State Higher Vocational School in Wałbrzych, which published issues 1–3. Then, Pro Publishing House became its co-publisher, which to this day publishes this magazine together with one of the universities: until 2004 with the PWSZ in Wałbrzych, in the years 2005-2007 with the PWSZ in Racibórz, and from 2008 until today with the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. In addition, since 2009, the Slavic Commission of the Polish Academy of Sciences has been a co-publisher.
