Abstract

The article devoted to the memory of Professor Włodzimierz Pająkowski presents his scholarly career, organizational activity, and contribution to the development of Polish Balkan studies. The author portrays the Professor as a pioneer of research on the history of Epirus and the Illyrians, whose works gained international recognition and introduced a new perspective on the role of peripheral peoples in the ancient world. The text emphasizes W. Pająkowski’s merits in integrating the community of scholars researching the history of the Balkans through the organization of the “Balcanicum” symposia, the establishment of the journal “Balcanica Posnaniensia,” and the Department of Balkan Studies at Adam Mickiewicz University. The memorial also highlights the Professor’s teaching and social activity, his care for students, and his involvement in the development of new academic centres.
