Abstract

The aim of the article is a critical analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic consequences in the global South and the debate that has emerged among peripheral intellectuals (or those who write from the subaltern perspective) about the (economic and discursive) marginalization of non-Western societies. The subject of the analysis are texts published since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 and they are confronted with the theoretical reflection that has emerged in recent years. The article presents the impact of the structural conditions of periphery on the course of the pandemic and specific problems of communities who live there. The pandemic debate points to the growing empowerment of global South knowledge and the need for dialogue between Western critical thought and peripheral thought to elaborate more innovative ontologies of social life.
