Abstract

The Holy Land was extremely important to the life and work of one of the most eminent Church Fathers, Jerome of Stridon. The article examines the descriptions of the Holy Land found in the Letters. It also shows the theology flowing from Stridonian’s interaction with the places where Jesus stayed during his sojourn on earth. In recent theology, this kind of study is referred to as a Christology of experience. It is firmly based on pointing to the sacred places where the Saviour stayed during his life. In this way, it provides a bridge between God and man, helping him through visible evidence to believe anew. The Holy Land contains places associated with Christ’s activity on earth. In this way, these places speak as evidences of faith to all seekers and unbelievers alike, making the truths of faith speak not only of the Scriptures, but also of the sacred places that are eyewitnesses to the Saviour’s activity. Such a Christology also moves man towards Eschatology, because it allows us to look at the temporal in the perspective of life in eternity.
