Abstract
This article deals with the activities of the Ministry of Propaganda and Public Enlightenment of the Third Reich in the first half of 1933, that is, during the first period of NSDAP rule. Joseph Goebbels’ diaries were used as research material. The introduction provides a political science analysis of the totalitarian system including propaganda. Then the process of establishing the ministry, methods of operation during the election campaign, and ways of manipulating voters are described. Goebbels’ relations with Hitler and the influence of National Socialist ideology on the mass media are also characterized.
