Abstract
The paper presents an analysis of ecology-related anglicisms found in the Ital- ian women’s lifestyle magazines “Vogue Italia” and “Elle Italia” (2017–2025). The study focuses on non-adapted loanwords. Formal analysis confirms the presence of English adjectives and nouns— primarily deverbal forms ending in the suffix -ing. Neologisms such as greenfluencer, green-addicted and eco-glamping are also noted, along with numerous compounds formed with the prefix eco- and the suffixes -friendly and -free. Semantic analysis made it possible to distinguish five categories of borrowings: (1) emissions and climate, (2) sustainable development, (3) marketing and social awareness, (4) circular fashion, and (5) eco-conscious cosmetics. From a functional perspective, these anglicisms serve denotative roles (naming new phenomena), categorizing roles (as labels), stylistic roles (enhancing prestige and global “coolness”), and marketing-persuasive roles—often concealing practices of greenwashing.
