Abstract
The article presents the relationship between the acceptance of democratic rules and the subjective assessment of the degree of their implementation in different European countries, on the one hand, and the size of social capital at the disposal of the citizens of those countries, on the other. The data used in the comparative analysis were derived from the European Social Survey conducted in 2012. Based on these data, three types of classification were constructed: 1) support for democracy, 2) assessment of democracy, and 3) the level of social capital.
Subjective opinions on the democratic system and the estimated size of social capital were additionally confronted with objective macro-level indicators describing the functioning of societies in the socio-political dimension: the quality of governance (Worldwide Governance Index), the stability of democracy (Democracy Index), economic competitiveness (Global Competitiveness Index), social development (Human Development Index), and human capital (Human Capital Index)
