Abstract
The article analyzes the specific nature of archaic Greek lyric poetry in the context of the relationship between oral tradition and written text, as well as the significance of the mode of transmission for the functioning of a literary work. The aim of the study is to demonstrate the oral character of Greek lyric poetry and to indicate the influence of the form of transmission on the process of literary communication. The author employs methods of literary and historical-literary analysis, drawing on theories of orality, reception poetics, and studies of literary communication. It is demonstrated that archaic Greek lyric poetry was oral in character; however, unlike epic poetry, it was not created improvisationally during performance, but was based on a pre-existing authorial text. Orality shaped the relationship between sender and recipient by reducing temporal and spatial distance and by subordinating the work to a specific performative situation. The article emphasizes that the written text in modern literature allows for multiple interpretations and detaches the work from its original context - features absent from archaic Greek lyric poetry. The results of the analysis indicate that the distinctive nature of archaic Greek lyric poetry stemmed primarily from the oral mode of the work’s functioning, which determined both its structure and its reception.
