Abstract
The author analysed coins minted in Moesia and Thrace by centres with the right to issue their own coins in terms of their spread beyond the Balkan provinces of the Roman Empire. The aim of the article is to determine the importance of local minting for monetary circulation and to assess the range of occurrence of these coins in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. The author used numismatic and historical methods. He analysed the activities of individual mints, the structure of issues and data from monetary finds. The article showed that autonomous coins were issued primarily to meet local demand for petty money. In Thrace from the 1st to the 3rd century AD There were 21 mints in operation, and seven in Moesia Inferior. The analysis of the finds showed that most of the issues remained in local circulation, but some coins also reached the Barbaricum areas. Their presence proves the existence of long-distance trade contacts and the penetration of Roman money beyond the borders of the empire. According to the author, numismatic material is one of the most important sources for research on the economy and economic contacts of the Danube provinces.
