Abstract
The paper focuses on opinions and outlooks concerning the promotion system used at the higher education institutions, the selected legal Solutions regulating the academic career, remuneration of teaching and research staff regarding their position, the role of the higher education institutions in staff promotion and the role of external institution in promotion of teaching, and research staff, and researchers. The above issues are discussed against a background of the respondents’ position in the academic hierarchy. The paper utilized selected results of the study requested by The Presidium of the Council of Higher Education at the Centre for Science Policy and Higher Education at the University of Warsaw. First of all, results verifying the assumption that: position in the academic hierarchy influences judgements regarding the promotion system at higher education institutions and fosters the differentiation of proposals and postulates relating to the system, are discussed.
