Abstrakt
Choć początkowo koncepcja kapitału społecznego była rozwijana przede wszystkim na gruncie socjologii, stopniowo zainteresowanie nią pojawiło się wśród innych dyscyplin, w tym geografii. Z punktu widzenia geografii istotny jest nie tyle sam fakt istnienia tego kapitału, ile raczej to, gdzie on powstaje, jak jest przestrzennie zróżnicowany oraz czy za pomocą kapitału społecznego można wyjaśniać przestrzenne zróżnicowanie innych zjawisk i procesów społecznych, takich jak rozwój gospodarczy. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przegląd wybranej problematyki badawczej dotyczącej kapitału społecznego w perspektywie geograficznej oraz dyskusja nad nią. Uwaga autorów skupiona jest przede wszystkim na zagadnieniach przestrzennego zróżnicowania kapitału społecznego oraz przyczyn tego zróżnicowania, wpływu kapitału społecznego na rozwój gospodarczy oraz mechanizmów tego wpływu, a także znaczenia kapitału tego typu dla międzynarodowej wymiany gospodarczej.
