Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyse the reception of the short story Ги-ги-и! by the contemporary Ukrainian writer Yurii Vynnychuk through the prism of the senses. It investigates how the artistic word becomes the link between the reader and their senses, how it shapes visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, and tactile associations in the consciousness of the reader. The study shows how the writer, using an aesthetic of ugliness that affects the reader’s subconscious and impacts their senses, demonstrates the dark side of life. The paper also points to Vynnychuk’s use of the monstrosity
aesthetic. The study uses a hermeneutic research method.
