Abstract
The article shows the activity of women in the medical Sciences, which overthe centuries took many forms - from ancillary functions, nursing and care to professionalization and equality between the sexes in the exercise of the medical profession. The article presents women, who in Poland as well as in the world have become forerunners of medicine; who, by educating themselves, practicing and passing their knowledge to other women, proved that medical science is not an area that is reserved only for men. The purpose of the article is to explain the way that women had to undergo in order to come into being in medicine, and shows the changes that had to be made in both social awareness and medical Sciences so to be able to speak of - the observed today - feminization of medical professions.
