How to Cite
Abstract
An attempt is made in the article to answer three questions: does the academic profession exist, what are its characteristic features and what is its importance in the contemporary world? Two positions appear in the discussion: first - one can speak of the academic profession despite of the fact that it is performed by specialists of various fields, because it has more common than different features; second - that such a profession does not exist because there are more different than common features. The article also analyses the values associated with the performance of this profession.
