Abstract

The paper discusses attitudes regarding the requirement to establish higher education quality assurance systems in post-communist countries. The reasons of the state and of the higher education institutions authorities interest in the issue are discussed. Some paragraphs are devoted to the question of accreditation. Recently, the accreditation institutions were introduced in some countries of the region to secure the appropriate education quality. Also, attention was paid to the ambiguity of the terminology regarding the quality of education and the quality assessment.
