The Economic Aspects of Professional Path Analysis - Objectives, Methods and State of the Art

Abstract

The authors discuss many questions relating to the study of the professional pathways of university graduates. They explain the objectives and significance of such research and its methodology. They also make an effort to bring some order to the various component issues. The authors state that the methodology of research into the professional careers of university graduates should include the analysis of biograms. Biograms describe the processes which affect the increase or degradation of the part of human capital relating to education. In their summary they try to formulate a list of research problems - research challenges which are particularly important today when Poland is undergoing structural transformation. This article is the effect of analyses conducted within a research project sponsored by the State Committee of Scientific Research (KBN no. 1H02B 017 18). The authors also refer to widely available, published source materials as well as materials relating to the current work of the Centre for the Development of Economic Studies at the Main School of Commerce and stored in its archives.
