Abstract
The subject of this study is the issue of municipal insolvency. Cases of financial collapse of municipalities do occur in practice. Some legal systems therefore provide for special regulations for such circumstances, similar to those applicable to entrepreneurs. Particular attention is paid to US federal legislation on municipal insolvency. Expectations regarding the reform of those regulations are discussed. Regulations in this matter in other legal systems are also presented. The concept of the need to introduce specialist regulations into Polish law is defended. In addition, proposals for appropriate changes are presented.
