Abstract
The article titled Fatherly love, or on the sacrifice of the daughter: Some reflections on the novel „Adua” by Igiaba Scego explores the theme of the father-daughter relationship in Adua by Igiaba Scego. Adopting a mythological interpretive lens, it suggests that the novel is a rewriting of the myth of Iphigenia. However, as such, it speaks not only of the daughter’s tragedy but also of the implications of paternal love. The analysis highlights the domineering character of the father and the nature of the daughter’s sacrifice, which is both desired and carried out by the father and by the patriarchal culture. The study reveals that paternal love is conditioned by the father’s own traumas, the culture he has internalized, and the ideology he upholds.
