Abstract
The paper explores the spiritual dimension in the works of Fleur Jaeggy, focusing on the dynamics of inwardness and guilt, analyzed through the theological category of delectatio morosa. It also highlights how the internalization of the conflict between dogmatic rigor and mystical impulse, between ascetic discipline and ecstatic tension, gives rise, in the author’s short fiction, to a form of sacredness marked by suspension and negation, where sinful desire is not translated into action but remains an object of contemplation. Furthermore, the aim of the study is to show how Jaeggy’s prose configures itself as a liminal and cloistered space, in which the sacred is experienced as absence, evil becomes a speculative stimulus, and narration unfolds as a confession without expiation.
