Abstract

The article contains the findings of studies conducted in the middle of 1997 at the University of Warsaw. Their purpose was to determine to what degree common knowledge about differences between the quality of education in tuition and tuition-free studies is consistent with academic reality at the University of Warsaw. Quality was examined in relation to the broadly understood conditions in which the educational process takes place. From the studies it may be concluded that with such an approach, the differences between tuition and tuition-free studies at the university in question are not as distinct as commonly assumed. Where students’ views differ in these questions, we note a stronger influence of the faculty than the form of studies. It must be emphasised, however, that 8 fields of studies were selected for study and all of the findings presented in the article concern only this population.
