Abstract
The Author discusses the relationships between general education received in higher education establishments and economic demands drawing on the example of the U.S. education system. He observes a gradual transformation of the U.S. higher education model towards offering knowledge and skills that are sought-after on the labour market. The status quo is illustrated in the Author’s discussion of the situation at four American universities and two smaller colleges.
