Literary, cinematic and artistic realizations of ecofeminism
We are interested in the relationships between feminism, ecology, and ecocriticism, examined both from a theoretical perspective and through their literary, cinematic, and artistic realizations. We treat ecofeminism as a diverse current of reflection that examines the links between mechanisms of women's subordination and the exploitation of nature, while critiquing hierarchies and oppositions entrenched in culture: nature–culture, feminine–masculine, body–mind, human–non-human. We are particularly interested in the ways in which literature and art reveal these dependencies, reinterpret traditional conceptions of femininity and nature, and propose alternative models of relationships between humans and the non-human world. We would also like to draw attention to the categories of care, interdependence, responsibility, and agency, as well as the connections between ecofeminism and contemporary ecocriticism and non-anthropocentric humanities. We invite you to approach these issues from the perspective of various theoretical, artistic, and cultural traditions.
Proposed topics:
- the figure of Mother Earth in ecofeminist discourses;
- the Gaia hypothesis in ecocritical and ecofeminist theories;
- woman – nature – culture: artistic reinterpretations of traditional oppositions;
- the female body and the body of the Earth – metaphors, analogies, and their critique;
- ecofeminism towards anthropocentrism;
- violence against women and violence against nature;
- ethics of care and responsibility from an ecofeminist perspective;
- animals, plants, and other non-human entities as subjects and actors;
- ecofeminist representations of ecological crisis and disaster;
- ecofeminism in relation to posthumanism and new materialism;
The above list of topics is open-ended and does not exhaust the possible ways of addressing ecofeminist issues.
