Abstract
Memory and oblivion as socio-cultural phenomena are directly connected to the construction of musical modernism. Modernism can be understood as a post-traditional position that rejects the obligatory character of tradition but not necessarily the tradition itself. The possibility of celebrating the memory of non-obligatory now tradition and the possibility of the oblivion of tradition seem to shape two different and potentially conflicting strategies of musical modernism. These strategies are not limited to aesthetic sphere but have distinct socio-cultural connections.
