Abstract
The article addresses the issue of the relationship between the sense of life among academic youth and their competencies essential for the future labor market, which is undergoing dynamic transformations in the era of Industry 4.0 and 5.0. The article presents the results of research on the level of sense of life and future competencies among students of pedagogy-related fields at three universities. It also discusses the interrelations between these variables. The research employed a diagnostic survey using the CAWI method, with the participation of 429 respondents. The obtained results indicate statistically significant correlations between the sense of life (in some of its aspects) and the level of future competencies declared by respondents, particularly in the areas of problem-solving in teams, understanding others, and self-understanding. The study – albeit indirectly, based on the assessment of the polarization of standardized beta regression coefficients – showed that respondents with a clear sense of life declared a higher level of competencies crucial for adaptation to the labor market. The article emphasizes that the development of future competencies should be supported by existential reflection and the building of a sense of life, which may contribute both to professional effectiveness and to the psychological well-being of young people. The article suggests the necessity of integrating the shaping of professional competencies with personal development in order to better prepare graduates for the demands of the contemporary labor market.
