Abstract
The subject of this paper is revitalisation of degraded urban areas. It recapitulates the social and spatial experiments carried out in 2005, when one of the first processes of revitalisation in Poland had just commenced. The idea of revitalisation was based on two pillars. One was a socially rooted idea of inhabitant participation in urban planning, inspired by East German experience, and the other was an idea of improving the ‘touristic portfolio’ of the city, rooted in the idea of its historical trail. The research was based on quantitative data from the social survey and detailed interviews with inhabitants of the revitalised areas.License
