The review process

The procedure of reviewing articles in Slavia Antiqua is in compliance with the recommendations included in a brochure of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education “Good practice in review procedures in science”, Warsaw 2011. The journal also follows European Commission guidelines on Ethics in Social Science and Humanities. In ethically relevant cases, we recommend our peer reviewers following COPE Ethical Standards for Peer Reviewers.

When submitting works for publication in the journal, the authors agree to the review process. The submitted articles are first evaluated by the editors and next are reviewed by independent reviewers who are not the journal’s editors. The editors choose reviewers from among specialists in a given field.  In the case of interdisciplinary texts, more than two reviewers can be appointed. The submitted works are not sent to reviewers from the institution of the author’s affiliation  or individuals who may be in a conflict of interests with the author. The texts are reviewed confidentially and anonymously (double-blind review), within a maximum of two weeks of being verified by the anti-plagiarism software. The reviewers must not use their knowledge of the work before publication thereof. The following aspects are evaluated: the article's compliance with the journal's profile, the relevance of the title, the topicality of the issues discussed, taking into account the state of research, the correctness of the methodology used, the correctness of the interpretation and conclusions, and the formal correctness of the text (text structure, clarity and linguistic correctness, correctness of footnotes). Two unequivocally positive reviews are required for a text to be accepted for publication. In the event of a conflicting assessment of the text, the editors may appoint a third reviewer.
The author is informed about the result of the evaluation within a maximum of two weeks after receiving both reviews. It is possible to correspond with the Editors of SA about the possible comments or qualification for print. The Editor in Chief makes the final decision about qualifying an article for print.
