Abstract
The article follows the theoretical line of grammaticalisation and corpus linguistics and highlights three structures with arriver: N[abstract] arrive (à N[human]), N[human] arrive à Vinf and Il arrive que + Prop / Il arrive à N[human] de Vinf. The most common equivalents of these uses in Polish and Lithuanian (modal verbs, adverbial strategy) are also analysed. The aim is to demonstrate that the verb arriver is undergoing grammaticalisation and that it is necessary for lexicographical practice to follow this evolution. The study is based on a trilingual French-Polish-Lithuanian parallel corpus. The frequency of use of the analysed structures demonstrates their emergence alongside the locative use of arriver and illustrates a gap between the use of the verb arriver in contemporary French on the one hand, and what bilingual dictionaries offer on the other (the order of different meanings of the analysed verb and their Polish and Lithuanian equivalents).
