Abstrakt
The publication by Svein Mønnesland is a comprehensive visual encyclopedia of Montenegro, built on rich iconographic material showing its landscapes, people, and history. The author presents the country through visual language, emphasizing its authenticity and the way Europe discovered and interpreted Montenegro. The monograph, rooted in cultural and political anthropology, highlights the interpretive power of images over verbal discourse. Static visuals require active engagement from the viewer, prompting reflection on history, ethics, freedom, and Europe’s cultural diversity. Ultimately, the work serves as a “Venetian mirror,” revealing both Montenegro’s identity and Europe’s evolving perception of it.
