Peer Review Procedure for Articles Submitted to Biblioteka
- The peer review procedure for articles submitted to Biblioteka follows the recommendations set out in the brochure Good Practices in Review Procedures in Science, published by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Warsaw, 2011. The Editorial Board also adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The Polish version of the relevant procedures is available in translation by Ewa Rozkosz and Sylwia Ufnalska (see the “Publication Ethics” section). In matters involving ethical considerations, our reviewers are advised to follow the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.
- To ensure the originality and high quality of published articles, Biblioteka applies up-to-date procedures for evaluating submissions and uses the Crossref Similarity Check service powered by iThenticate. The system enables the identification of textual similarities by comparing submitted manuscripts with publications available online and in indexed databases, and by identifying the sources of matching passages. Manuscripts found to contain improperly cited material derived from other authors or instances of plagiarism will be rejected by the Editorial Board. Any infringement of copyright or violation of good research practices will be reported to the relevant authorities at the institutions employing the author. If plagiarism is identified in a published article, the Editorial Board will retract the article and publish a notice to that effect on the journal’s website and/or in its printed version.
- The Editorial Board of the annual journal Biblioteka accepts and submits for peer review scholarly articles (section: ARTICLES) that fall within the scope of the journal. The journal covers topics related to contemporary librarianship, bibliology, information science and documentation, as well as press studies, regional studies, the history of libraries, and the history of books and library collections. The annual journal also features notable approaches and solutions employed in academic librarianship internationally. Book reviews of recently published works, as well as of earlier publications addressing significant and relevant topics, are not subject to peer review (section: REVIEWS).
- Manuscripts subject to peer review undergo a two-stage evaluation process. The entire publishing process, including the two-stage evaluation of submitted articles (internal and external peer review), is conducted via the PRESSto platform. The Editorial Board reserves the right to make editorial cuts to submitted manuscripts and to reject manuscripts that do not meet the journal’s editorial requirements (see the Submissions: Author Guidelines section).
- The editorial team (members of the Scientific Advisory Board) is responsible for the initial screening of submitted manuscripts (internal review). Following a positive internal assessment, the anonymized manuscript, with all author-identifying information removed, is evaluated by two independent reviewers who are specialists in the relevant field, usually from institutions other than Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The review process takes approximately three weeks.
- The review is conducted in writing and concluded with one of the following recommendations: acceptance of the article for publication; revision of the manuscript; revision of the manuscript and resubmission for further review; or rejection of the manuscript. Where the review recommendation is
Review Form - If an article receives two negative reviews, it is rejected. In the event of conflicting review recommendations, the Editorial Board submits the article to a third reviewer for an additional assessment.
- The Editorial Board does not disclose the identities of authors to reviewers or the identities of reviewers to authors (double-blind peer review). The Editorial Board also takes measures to ensure that the peer review process is conducted free from conflicts of interest.
