Abstract

Libraries play different important roles in contemporary society. They contribute to advancement of intellectual and social capital and have a particular impact on economic benefits of their surroundings. This paper gives an overview of the main approaches to library economic impact research. These include: cost effectiveness research, CBA – cost-benefit analysis, CVM – contigent valuation method, consumer surplus method and ROI (Return of Investment). In addition, the author analyses different available research initiatives in this area.
