The Journal has a long tradition. It was established in the Institute of German Studies of Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań in 1971. 40 issues have come out over the five decades (1971-2021). The composition of the Board of Editors has not changed since 2017. Previous Editors-in-Chief were: Andrzej Bzdęga, Hubert Orłowski, Jan Papiór, Edyta Połczyńska, and Czesław Karolak.

The articles refer to areas such as Literary Studies, Linguistics, Cultural Studies, Translation Studies, and Glottodidactics.The languages of publication are German, Polish and English.
