Abstract

The article deals with Romanian libraries as information and multimedia centers at different level of education. The libraries and documentation centers were visited by the authors during a seminar in Sibiu between Sep. 27 and Oct. 4, 2014. The article presents the history, collections and the mission of the provincial ASTRA public library, affiliated with Lucian Blaga Central University Library. A particular attention is given to school Documentation and Information Centers – a new form of library services. These centers have been established to equalize chances for pupils from rural areas and to help members of the public get better adjusted to modern life conditions by teaching them basic skills in core capacities relative to modern forms of information delivery.
