Focus and scope

The range and scope of the journal

The annual publication "Biblioteka” is a nationwide research periodical. The title particularly attracts research articles that would present the results of research studies on broadly understood problems and issues in library and information science, such as the history of books, libraries and modern librarianship, bibliology (the academic study of books as physical, cultural objects) and research information and documentation as well as media studies. From 2004 ”Biblioteka” has been a peer-reviewed journal. The policy of the journal is to publish at least 50 per cent of articles that are authored by researchers from research centres other than the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The print version of the title is the original version of the journal. The archival numbers of “Biblioteka”: from No. 1(10)1997 to No. 10(19)2006, are available in their full version online on the Wielkopolska Digital Library platform. The content of successive volumes is available in the database Muzeum Historii Polski BazHum and Directory of Open Access Journals, and from 2007 the contents of successive current volumes are available in the institutional repository AMUR. This publication has been indexed in IC Journals Master List.

Open access policy

The journal provides open access to all of its contents in line with the principle that freely accessible research increases and enhances the global development of science and knowledge circulation. The editors encourage authors to publicise research published in the journal in open repositories (following their review process or submission of the final version to the publisher), provided that the link to the journal website's top page and the DOI number of the article are given.

The submission and publication of manuscripts is free for all authors.

History of the journal

This title has been published since 1997. The present edition of the periodical is a continuation of the journal with the same title published between 1960-1970 and included as part of the serial publication entitled Prace naukowe Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza (online archive of full-text articles from the series is available in the Wielkopolska Digital Library). To mark this particular continuation, the new annual publication, different in both form and expanded programme policy, has a double numbering of volumes. Volume One has been given the number 1, while the continuity of the title is expressed in a successive number that refers to the total number in the series (given in parenthesis).

The reviewing process

Each manuscript submitted to the journal will be thoroughly peer-reviewed before publication by two or three independent reviewers. The evaluation of each accepted article is done by reviewers who are not associated with the University Library and, in most cases, not affiliated with the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

All submitted manuscripts undergo a peer review process before publication. Manuscripts should meet the professional standards of academic journals, make a significant contribution in fact or interpretation of the problems and issues of modern librarianship, bibliology, research information and documentation as well as media studies, local studies, but also history of libraries, books, and library collections. The journal also presents the most interesting libraries and solutions used in research librarianship home and abroad.

The review process is conducted in a double blind review process, where the identity of authors and reviewers are concealed.

The review is in written form and includes an unambiguous recommendation of the reviewer to publish the text, improve its quality and the scientific value, or to reject it.

The names of the reviewers are added to the list of reviewers published on the web page of the journal after the manuscript has been typeset for print.
