Abstract
In the context of this article, the casual and vulgar idioms mentioned in Duden-11 “Redewendungen” are examined in terms of their motivation, meaning, frequency, style marking and their usage. First, they are extracted from this dictionary and examined for their origins. Next, they are divided by subjects. Furthermore, the style tags in dictionary are put to the test. This is initially done by using the analyses in the reference corpora together with a survey conducted among native speakers. Finally, a list of common, relatively frequent idioms is created, which can be used primarily in foreign language didactics.License
